"No-Tree State Park"A new Wisconsin state park opened today, and this one happens to be located in Lake Michigan, right off the shore of downtown Milwaukee. It's an island actually, and it has no trees.
Lakeshore State Park, as it has been named, has been a project nine years in the making. The 17-acre, $17 million park was carved out of more than 1 million tons of rock excavated during the 1980s for the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District's deep tunnel project. For years the giant island of boulders just sat there. Now, this sun-drenched space in the lake has the makings of an impressive urban jewel.

new state park is urban island oasis"
