On August 17, 1982, Royal Philips Electronics manufactured the world's first compact disc at a Philips factory in Langenhagen, Germany. Twenty-five years later, today, the CD is still one of the world's standards in media publishing -- eclipsing cassette tapes, zip drives, and floppy disks.
