"Wisconsin State Fair By The Numbers"As many of you know, I currently live in the same neighborhood as
Wisconsin State Fair Park (West Allis, WI). And, while I didn't actually attend the State Fair this year (August 2-12), I did still get to experience the crowds, traffic, sounds, etc. And, as is the case every year, it was yet another hectic week and a half.
That said, as I was surfing the local news this evening, I came across a collection of final statistics recapping the now-concluded 2007 Wisconsin State Fair. Keep in mind, this is a state fair, not a county fair. All of Wisconsin was represented.
Here are some of the highlights:
- 801,420 visitors entered the gates during the 11-day event.
- There were more than 11,000 animals at the fair.
- Bottles of Dasani water sold: 172,800
- Wisconsin Bakers Association cream puffs sold: 355,173
- WI Dairy Promotions grilled cheese sandwiches sold: 55,000
- Artic Glacier Ice sold: 720,000 pounds
- Ice cream sundaes served by Washington County FFA: 50,000
- New Berlin Lion's Club corn on the cob sold: 95,000 Ears
- WI Potato Growers Association - baked potatoes sold : 55,000
- WI Association of Pork Producers pork chop sandwiches sold: 54,446
- Sky Glider Trips / miles: 110,350 trips for 41,800 miles
- Giant Slide Rides/ miles: 132,523 Rides for 4,392 miles
- Notable Music Acts: Lonestar, Kool and the Gang, MercyMe, Switchfoot
The 2008 Wisconsin State Fair will take place from July 31 through August 10 -- also in my local neighborhood. The good news is, though, that for the next 340+ days, everything will once again be quiet and quaint around here. And that's something I would gladly sacrifice eleven days for.
