"January Tornadoes"Here in Southeastern Wisconsin, January is usually the coldest month of winter. Blizzards and heavy snowstorms are common, and the normal high temperature is about 28 degrees. This year, however, seems to be an exception. Yesterday's record high in Milwaukee was 63 degrees... and it didn't bring snow or blizzards, it brought rain, lighting, and multiple tornadoes.
The town of
Wheatland (about 12 miles from where I grew up) was hardest hit. More than 100 homes were damaged, and 26 destroyed, with winds reaching 140-150 miles per hour. The destructive force of these twisters is estimated in the millions.
Miraculously, only fifteen people were injured, with a broken arm being the most serious.
