"Wisconsin Tornado Count"According to the National Weather Service, there have been 26 tornadoes in Wisconsin this year (through 9:30pm, last night). Wisconsin normally has 21 per year, based upon averages from 1971-2000. The greatest number of tornadoes was 62 back in 2005.
Here's a simple breakdown of our
2008 tornadoes:
January 7th ... 2
April 25th ...... 2
May 25th ...... 1
June 7th ....... 12
June 12th ..... 9
Yes, you read that right... we had nine tornadoes yesterday.
Tornadoes are rated on a scale of zero to 5, with 5 being the deadliest. This year, the strongest Wisconsin tornado was an EF3 (3), and that was one of the two winter twisters back in January. Most of the other tornadoes have been of the weaker variety.
This just goes to show how severe our Wisconsin storms have been lately. We've had as many tornadoes this past week, as we usually do
in an entire year! Scary!
