"Crazy Eights"

Today is August 8, 2008 -- or in abbreviated terms, 08-08-08. According to the Gregorian Calendar, this is the 25th time since the Latin calendar was rearranged that we've had this particular date.

Back in 450 BC, Sextilis (the original name for the 6th month of the Latin calendar) likely became the 8th month when the calendar was reformed. It was renamed Augustus (August) in 8 BC -- in honor of the first Roman emperor, Augustus Caesar. We've had Augusts ever since.
