"A Milwaukee No-Hitter?"The Milwaukee Brewers continue to play good baseball. Today they finished off a three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates, winning 18 of their last 23 games, and sending Pittsburgh to their tenth straight loss. As far as the playoff race goes, they're the National League-leading wild card contender (by 5.5 games), and only 4.5 games behind the division-leading Chicago Cubs. The Brewers chances of making the post-season currently stand at... 94%.
The highlight of today's game was a rather exciting one: Brewers ace, CC Sabathia, pitched a masterful one-hit complete game shutout -- only the fourth of it's kind this season. His performance, however,
should have been a no-hitter -- one of baseball's rarest moments. In a rather mind-boggling turn of events, the official scorer decided to record a Sabathia bobbled ball as a "hit", instead of the clear "error" that it was. As a result, Milwaukee's ace came one hit shy of history.
The Brewers have vowed to contest the controversial call with Major League Baseball. If the record is overturned, it would be the first time in major league history that a no-hitter would be awarded retroactively. An official judgement call should be determined early this week.
Personally, I'd have to agree with the critics, announcers, and sportscasters: CC pitched a no-hitter. In the end, though, it's Major League Baseball that holds the deciding factor. So we'll just have to wait and see. No-hitter or not, that was still one heck of a game! :)
