Guns and gun ownership are not the problem. To
those who are blaming an inanimate object for the loss of life in last
week's school shooting, it's time to get real. The REAL problem is our
society's endless obsession with violence in the media; the
glorification of death and violence in pop-culture; and the rapidly
eroding respect for human life throughout our general society.
The Second Amendment
to the U.S. Constitution was passed on December 15, 1791. For 221
years, American's have had the protected right to possess a firearm, and
to use that firearm for traditionally lawful purposes. There is nothing
wrong with guns, they are just an object. The problem at hand stems
from the use of those guns by people who do not use them appropriately.
How about we focus on the problem, and stop trying to put a band-aid on the result of that problem.
